Here's the update: Carquest screwed me. The gasket they ordered for me that was suppose to be in today didn't come in. So it's Monday at the earliest for them- but Burt will have both of my gaskets in on Monday so that doesn't help me much.

I got the new hardware for the motor mount nuts at A&A Trading Post (Ace Hardware) on Broadway. Got those installed.

I can install the lower half of the intake manifold loosely this weekend to make myself feel like I've made a little progress. Monday night is going to be quite the wrench-a-thon.[/b]

man do i hate that...so your car is ooc until Mon....

OK, here's the difference in the intake manifolds. Top is the reworked and bottom is the factory:

Here's the big gapping hole where the intake manifold used to be:

You can see the AWR motor mount in this shot:

I didn't do a side-by-side with the factory mount. Oh well. The AWR mount is not coming out- EVER!

And here's where my car will be for the couple days:

I still say if you had a real mechanic there you wouldn't have run into these problems :P j/k

That sucks. I've run into similar problems in the past, actually, I'm sure anyone that's done any work on their car has had this happen to them! Good luck on that marathon Monday night.

Update:

Still waiting on parts. But I went ahead and put the manifold back in- just not completely bolted up. There is still room to slide the new gasket in. I've made most of the vacuum connections so far. Once the gasket is in place, I'll bolt the manifold to the cylinder head, install the fuel rail, make the rest of the vacuum and electrical connections, install the fuel lines, install the throttle body and make all those connections, install the intake pipe, put it back on the ground, fire it up and hope there's no vacuum leaks! It sounds like alot, but I think it will only take about an hour.

Well, it's finished.

But, I've got an issue causing a high idle (like 1500-2500 rpm high). I'm guessing it's a vacuum leak somewhere but I have a few other ideas of possible causes as well.

In the high rpm range, the car seems to react much better though.

Once I get the idle issue fixed, I'll be happy.

Well, the high idle is fixed. I somehow shortened my throttle cable which was pulling the throttle plate open too much.

The next issue is that when I reassembled the VICS (another system of butterflies that alters the intake plenum shape) I used green loctite. Well, I think that loctite ran too much and is now causing the VICS system to be nearly impossible to actuate by hand and I'm sure it's more than the vacuum actuator solenoid can handle as well. I've got a check engine light. I'll get it read at lunch. I'm hoping it's just the VICS. The car definitely pulls pretty hard now from about 3000 rpms up to 6500 rpms- even if the VICS system isn't activating.

The good news is that I only have to pull the top portion of the manifold out to fix the VICS. I should be able to have that out, fixed and reinstalled in about 2 hours.
