After the first few posts I kinda stopped reading haha.

Screw car shows- I wouldn't let those/that get you down...and that's what it sounds like is making you second guess yourself.

Exactly. That's one of the reasons I didn't show. I could care less if someone likes the looks of it, not enough for a car show anyway. It's cool if they do I guess, but mainly I built it to my liking and if they don't like it, I don't really care. Don't let the car show losers make you second guess why you bought your car...for performance. Car shows are cool, but I'd MUCH rather win a trophy for winning a race than for building something that's pretty but otherwise useless.

Build your car for you. You have a sweet car, screw the haters.

Also quoted for truth.

ive done alot to be fast but its not really worth anything imo. looks are everything, i can care less about going fast or whatever. as long as i keep an even power to weight ratio im happy. time to get an FD. cant really go wrong with those.

also ask your self this. do you pick up chicks cause they have a good personality or they look good?

an FD is both of those... just saying... LOL

I never really tried to pick up chicks, too shy haha, but if I did, it wouldn't be because they look good. Sure, they would need to be decent looking at least, because you have to be attracted to them, but I'd much rather have a great conversation than a one-night stand. And you can't have a great conversation with fake tits and an empty head. When I was young, of course I'd go for looks, but not anymore.

Therefore, I say function over form, but it needs to look good to YOU as well haha.

I've all pretty much given up on going to car stohows. Partly because of my scheduel and other things going on in my life this year but mostly because no one looks at Mazdas much. My cars gone to shows nearly stock, with a kit and graphics, and how it looks now with the turbo kit. People just look at it and say oh an RX-8.... Those things are slow.

The next shows I go to will be just to show what I've done to my car and let people say what they want. Some will appreciate it, some will hate it. I don't expect to win anything especiay when I know people are gonna vote for one of the 15 Evo's or STI's that show because of what they are. If one person ends up looking at my car and appreciates the work that's all I need.

To answer your question...... I think car should look as nice as it is powerful. Looks do come first though. If there were 3 mista's at a show all Mazdaspeeds....... 1) is stock 2) is badly riced-out with nice wheels but body and paint look beat 3) is riced-out mildly and looks clean I'd bit for 3. Same thing if you had the #3 miata against a s2k that looked like #2 and a stock ATI.

But I'm a Mazda person so I would take a look at a miata. Other people won't cause they don't know what its all about.

ian the only problem is the widebody for the 2nd gen miata has a downright fugly front end. body is downright sexy. so is the rear. but i dont know if they were jsut happy they completed the body kit and spent 5 min designing the front or what.
Image

If i got a CF hood. the fastback wrapped in CF. the fenderflares. got the wheels painted black and tinted all the lights. I think that could be pulled off. with a tad more lowering.

I am building the car for me. back when i did that cruise, i had the tires but they werent fully broken in yet. and since then i did a brake upgrade. and my car scares people in the turns now. that PURE grip that feels like your eyes are gonna slide over to the other side of your head is what i love.

the reason i like shows is besides open track days. or road racing which cost a small fortune. carshows are my only real form of automotive events. I dont autocross because the mazdaspeed miata is retardedly classed in scca. hence why you rarely see any out there. and the ones that do tend to pull 2 of the last 3 spots in times.

and thats what i looked at when buying my car.. wrx wagon, honda s2k, and even an audi TT quattro. were the main contenders. honda lost because you have to drive like a maniac over 6k to go anywhere especially at this altitude. Audi stock for stock was slow. parts were pricy, and they sound like complete ### when modded. wrx. lost because well they are everywhere.

yea the the front does look pretty boring on the widebody. fender flares actually dont look bad.

another option is to get into the stanced/fitment game. it just requires coilovers, camber and low offset wheels with kinda strerched tires.

you can always raise the ride height and set the camber back after the car show. mine got attention with just the dished wheels and the low height even though i had one side of the car not even done LOL

Hardtop + drop + wheels = sex
(I've had this picture saved for a while cause I liked it so much)

edit: sideskirts not necessary, but still nice.

I posted this one before, but it's probably the best looking Miata I've seen.

Reminds me of a mini Rx-7. (didn't see iani1.1's comment until I posted)

well i have a drop, and i think as low or lower than that car is.. but i swapped out the old 17" wheels for 15's heck I even have the small version of the sideskirts installed

but a hardtop really really helps out.

this is the most recent good pic. it had the 17"s and this was after the spring install but before it completely settled. you can see the difference between the small and large sideskirts. they have a piece infront of the door too. but i cant do the stock mudflaps because of the mazdaspeed rear bumper. ( think how the speed3 rear bumper is different from base 3)

Image

its the reason i have an issue modding the body. in my opinion the mazdaspeed front lip is amazing. . the headlights are black instead of chrome. calipers came painted silver.

A hard top would really change the look. I would have it color matched and not CF.
