Death rattle was actually a death rattle. Lots of aluminum shavings in the oil filter and the drained oil. Weird part is the noise is not constant, just at mid to upper RPM's.

Thanks again for all the help Eric.
I'd also like to thank Pat for teaching me how to drive a manual :) Was a great day today.
And Christi for scaring the living daylights out of me on a couple of hairpins on lookout mountain. Oh, and Christi: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/efanmyth.htm READ THE END OF THAT PAGE!
And for Henry, for helping me find my way back to the highway to get home lol.

One more request Eric: Could you post or send me a PM explaining what you believe the issue to be with the engine? My dad wants to know, and I can't explain it very well since I don't even understand it 100% myself. I think I get the main idea, but if you could post that or message me, that would be awesome!

You're welcome. I found it priceless to keep watching the look on your face due to the hairpins :D
I really think your dad should either A. let you rebuild the motor/swap motor or B. get a new mazda. Good luck, either way.

I was laughing my *** off when you drove Christi's 3 the entire time to Pat's apartment in Glendale. Not bad your first time driving a manual.

Haha thanks guys.
Chances are 99.999999% that we will end up getting a rebuilt engine to put into it. And I was laughing too Henry :p I knew I wasn't doing perfect, but it was entertaining lol.
