Question About CEL's
Got back from Burt and Checkers. Got to Burt went saw Josh talked a bit. Went back to service to see about the MSP16 flash or whatever since my car was idling really rough. Told Andy about the problem with the CEL and all. Same thing as always no code comes up nothing they can do. I ordered my Ashtray with Jason...forgot to order the all weather matts. Well I hoped on I-25 and the CEL comes back on. Turn around and head back to Burt. Finally the code comes up. "Random missfire in cylinder one." Like I've been telling them. Well Andy suggests I change the plugs before they check anything. Plugs were changed in august with the new motor and also IIRC back in November when Lakewood changed out my coil packs. But I will change them out none the less to make everyone happy. Went to Checkers and they don't carry the plugs...they are special orde......but they can't order them. So we called up other places and shops and no one has them or can order them. I want to add they are $34 each. I think that the dealer wants close to $100 each not sure exactly. Wee. Time to search online for the best deal on plugs for my baby.
That's crappy.....I hate going to the dealership....every time you have an issue and tell them exactly what it is they never believe you...even if you researched an know what it is...they always blame the mod's for any issue right away or they completely ignore you and act like you are an idiot that doesn't have a clue.....Go Mazda tried to blame a faulty main harness on my exhaust system even though I knew what was wrong and the exhaust has nothing to do with the main harness.....Good luck....

You guys think you have it bad... the number ONE reason I got rid of my VW bug... Mcdonald automotive.. I bought a lemon, and colorado lemons are the hardest to claim. So I delt with it, took it in 2 weeks after I got it to get the turbo fixed or looked at. I had already put an aftermarket deck in.... they voided my warranty because they said whoever put my deck in (josh and his buddy.. both ASE certified) cut a wire and that made the turbo go out.. BS!! and at the same time of all this going on the nice tech took a screwdriver to my dash..... allll the way across it, and DEEP. Then tried to not say anything to me about it, and blame it on me when I did report it.. MCDONALD AUTOMOTIVE is the worst dealership ever. They then tried to pull the same crap with Josh's jetta.. never again will I own a VW or go to that shop.

Sucks, sorry dude. For the plugs, contact Atkins Rotary or Charles Hill on 8club. He was offering them at $80/set, Atkins at something like $90-100, don't remember which.

I don't have an RX-8 manual. How does the spark get to the plug? Are the plugs easy to get at? If it were my car, I'd yank #1 plug and compare it to another. Then check whatever components are responsible for the spark to the plug. Even a new coil can be bad. There was a recall on Direct Ign Cassettes on some GM cars. I think they were made by Bosch.

I don't think that they are a pain to get to. Pull the tire off and there they are. Now when we do the ignition upgrade I think that'd be a pain. I may try to relocate the coil paks.
And I'm sure that it's the coils seeing as the plugs are good, and mazda reccomonds to change them every 30k miles. I barley hit 30k and have had 3 sets already. Andy at Burt is probably being lazy. If Ed was there I'm sure he woulda took it in and checked everything out.
Plugs are a pain, you have to remove the driver's side wheel to get at them. Ignition system in the 8 is notoriously one of the weak points, I wouldn't be surprised at all if one of the new coils has already kicked the bucket.[/b]

Why does that rule out the coils? Last time the coils wer bad. And I don't understand why every freaking time it's Cyl 1. For everyone not just me. Everyone on RX-8 club. Both with my old motor and my new one. I don't even have Cylinders.
If you are only getting misfires on one cyl, it usually rules out the coils.
I had several misfire codes when I had a bad Dir Ign Cassette.[/b]
