The SM at Burt said that he has never heard that noise before (uh oh...lol), so I booked it in for Monday. Will let you know what they say.

Heck, my buddies and I would take the entire A/C system out of our cars for weight savings. Just tell Burt to keep it ;-)

Of course once the summer rolled around we were pissed at ourselves for not having A/C, and watching all the people driving on the highway with their windows up and no sweat beads streaming down their faces ;-/

Never said I was smart.

I pulled the AC in my Saturn in the name of weight savings- didn't work anyway. Driving that thing home in August in Oklahoma after spending a day at the track in the sun, wind, heat, humidity........ That sucked. And back when it was my daily driver, summertime driving also sucked. Nothing like sitting in traffic sweating your ass off.

it could be the liquid running thru the lines. I work at an A/C shop (maxair) and we had something similar on a car we just installed a/c in. It ends up reverberating from the steel line(s) into the body. Apparently it only happens once that certain rpm is reached which in this case could be at idle. I know sounds hoakie (sp) but the boss has been doin this shit for 30 years so I'll trust his knowledge.[/b]

Well, I know if the expansion valve is in backwards it will make a high pitch whistle sound; however not all the time though. Have run into that in commercial systems before. (Thats why there are arrows on the valve bodies!)

As far as this noise, my best guess is compressor shaft bearing. Since you said it only happens when the clutch is engaged, thats my guess. I have seen those bearings tighten up and cause the belt to slip slightly, but it just doesnt sound like a belt slip to me. It will be interesting to see what they find.
