Well, folks, we've decided to start searching for jobs in Germany. Pretty good shot I can get something over there, though if we can't get there by August, we'll wait until next summer to do it.
Anyhow, if we DO end up moving to Deutschland, we'd probably be faced with selling at least the CX-9 and Grand Cherokee, as they aren't exactly Euro-friendly cars that will work in the narrow streets and alleys of Germany's urban areas. Actually, we'd likely sell the 9 and put the Jeep in storage while we were there.
That leaves the MS6. Probably a decent car for Germany, but I still think I'd likely sell it should be move, just because I'd be making enough over there that I'd eventually be able to afford the 335i, M3, RS4, etc that I've always wanted.
However, selling all three cars and counting on finding one immediately upon landing there doesn't seem like the best idea to me...so maybe I SHOULD ship it overseas...the goverment would pay to ship two cars over there....
So...what would YOU do?

I would take it with. My dad has experience with this and working for the embassy. Chances are that you'll be able to sell the MS6 over there for more than you could get for it here. Plus you need some sort of transport while you're figuring out the layout of the city and how the public transport works. Since the gov will pay to send 2 cars there, take advantage of it and take the MS6. I agree that a CX-9 will not be Euro-friendly. The only problem may be maintenance and such on it.
Good luck on getting the job in Germany though!

Yea I'd take the MS6 with you since it's the smallest of the three, then decide once you're there if you want to sell it and get something nicer.

I have orders moving me and my family to Stuttgart (1 June 2010). We are very excited!
Where will you be headed?
Currently I am in the process of talking my wife to let me bring the 8
The Army only pays to ship one vehicle. It is about 2300 to ship another...Take the 6 for sure. I can't remember if I saw any 9's in Greece but I did see a few 7's Navigating fine around there. Mebe sell the 9 and get the wife a 7 over there. But she may e uncomfortable driving an SUV in tight places so how does she feel about a hatch?
Which side of the car is the drivers side in Germany? If it's the same as here getting parts and getting the car serviced/repaired shouldn't be a problem. Then again I don't think that should matter much as the dealer/shop could probably get any part since Europe has countries that drive on either side.

Suttgart is a possibility, but there are intel positions all over the Germany. Won't know until I start applying.

Take the Jeep. You'll make more on that than anything, if it's in good shape. Your car doesn't have to be small in Germany... Trucks drive all over the place. I don't know who told you roads were tight there.

You might be hard pressed to sell it over there, unless it's to another American. Gauges, indicators, etc might throw off some potential buyers. Plus, not sure how the differences in fuel will effect the injectors, pump, ecu, etc. Might want to check with Mazda on the subtle differences between the MS6 and 6 MPS. Get an RS4 and you'll be my hero

I've been there, albeit a long time ago and in a small village. Still, we have a large contingent of analysts who spent years in Germany, and they said it would be fine as long as we stay out of the side streets of smaller towns. So maybe the Jeep goes with...

Good advice. I'll talk to Mazda about it this week. And I WILL eventually own an RS4. It may be 4-5 years after I get there, but someday. The pay would basically eliminate my current house and utilities payments, and give ma good salary boost as well, so debt would go bye-bye in the first year and then I'd start saving!

LOL, but the gas mileage is hell.
speedjunkie wrote:Well how long will it take to ship a car there? Do you think you could buy a car there quicker than shipping your MS6?
That's a good question, but I think I could ship it out early enough that it would be waiting there for me when I arrive. I'll talk to the more experienced Germany guys in the office.
coloskydiver wrote:I would try to sell the MS6. If you can't get what you want out of it, take it with you. I would have to agree with Rich though, talk to Mazda about the fuel and how it will affect you motor.
Good idea. If I can get enough to cover the loan, then selling it might be better. If not, I will check out how she'd do in Deutschland.
