Daytime Running Lights

Postby AIM WO4 » Sun Nov 09, 2008 9:14

I installed the kit my mom brought me from Canadian Tire yesterday. I skipped the parking light hook-up.

Work great!

Wait...you actually want DRL? And more, you PAID to have your lights turn on by themselves?

Yes, I do. They are good to have on 2 lane highways. Also good for Canada trips.

I didn't pay. My mom gave them to me.

No doubt, I pulled the DRL relay on my VUE. Protege has the good old manually operated headlights.

Yeah i'm not a big fan of DRL's, i'm glad mazda doesn't have them standard. But if you do travel to Canada a lot they are a great thing to have since they are required by law up north.

Hey AIM PO4 is this the kit you installed on your 5? http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoParts/DrivingLights/PRD~0204001P/Daytime%2BRunning%2BLight%2BSystem.jsp

If so and if I can get my hands on one would you be willing to help me install it? Thanks!

Intresting. Not as weird as if you didn't have Canadian connections. I like to point out that when people ask me which cars u notice more, the ones with lights of or on during the day time it doesnt matter. cause if you had 40 cars with lights on and 10 with no lights on you'd notice the ones with lights off. You will alwys notice the odd cars out.

So save the earth, keep those ligjts off during the day and help stop global warming. ;).

 I doubt I am doing any harm with my lights on for mother earth. Now with my engine on yes I am contributing green house gasses..........but DRL's run your lights at 40-50% intensity and with the amount of driving I do they are something I would like to have

I still don't see the purpose of them to be on in 90 degree weather with clear skies @ noon (or any time the sun is out)

They are handy though on those gloomy days when stupid people don't turn their lights on at all. You know those cluody days when it's dark enough to need lights cause your car reflects the clouds and blends in with the road and distant background but light enough you can clearly see what is around you for a good distance.

Other than that they should not be standard "ON" on a car. Car manufacturers should put them in cars but with a toggle switch. So those of us who dread them can turn DRL off. Should kinda be like my moms lexus. If you forget to turn off your headlights they shut off when you open the drivers door. The switch is still on so when you start the car they are on. To not have them automatically turn on all you do is leave it on off. Viola.

That would be a very nice feature to have in the 5. I still believe DRL's help with safety and this is why I would like to have them.

DRL question about installing

Postby Marielle » Fri Dec 11, 2009 9:14

Hi guys, I'm new here.
I just purchased a Mazda5 and was wondering if you guys could let me know which kit you ended up getting for the DRL and if there were any tricks for installing. I'd like to grab a kit this weekend and Give a try at installing it myself.

Thanks
Marielle.
