I don't want to have to buy the airflow straightener. If Mazda found a problem with it that triggered enough problems for them to redesign the thing, then I want my money back, or a free replacement.

I spent $300+ on a part that has been found to be defective by Mazda. There should be some form of compensation.

So, is the benefit of buying the Mazda CAI that it won't void your warranty if the dealer installs? I'm wondering because I am looking at getting one, but don't want a voided warranty.

Yes. That is true. If you decide to get a Mazda CAI it will not void your warranty.

It would be nice to know what the reason they were pulled in the first place was and if the owners of the first generation Mazdaspeed CAI's are driving around with a defective part. I haven't been able to get an answer on this yet.

I haven't gotten an answer yet either, although I have asked a few times now with no response.

Bump for an answer on the original Mazdaspeed CAI??

This must be one of the world's greatest mysteries...not even Mazda people know the answer!

Because the Mazda speed3 was throwing a check engine light due to an improperly sized maf sensor : ) ironically the speed6 did not have the same issue in general. My speed6 never through a code in fact. At least due to that : 0 ) as far as the warranty goes, you have to go a long way to "void" your warranty due to after market parts, so if you got an Injen intake for example the dealer wouldn't have an issue. The concept is the same, so what does a name mean? What they stand to gain is by fooling you into thinking that they have to install only factory designed parts onto your car to keep your warranty. Key here install = money. Really has nothing to do with Mazdaspeed or whatever. As a general rule of thumb, it is your service managers discretion and with a factory performance car, mods are expected. Hope that helps!
[font=Arial Black][size=100]Roadrnr06 was my leased 2006 Speed 6 which was purchased on 06-06-06. I have many fond memories of that car, and will be keeping my original profile as a memory of the great car that I once had.

My new user name is Roadrnr09 and showcases my new 09 Subaru WRX which I am very happy to have purchased as a replacement vehicle : )

That definitely helps:) After speaking to you two, I was going to go the Cobb route anyway. Just think Mazda's being a bit wishey-washey not to directly answer the question-
one and one makes two, together we are free
