This is what I find most interesting:

That information combined with this:

In developing the next-generation RENESIS, Mazda made a thoroughgoing revision of engine dimensions including the trochoid rotor housing, adopting a longer stroke and larger displacement of 1600cc (800cc x 2) aimed to raise thermal efficiency and boost torque at all engine speeds. By employing the Hydrogen RE design policy of a direct injection system and aluminum side housing, as well as various other measures, we are further promoting the rotary engine's merits of light weight and compact size."
Now my questions come into play.... now I know Mazda's former hydrogen powered rotary in Japan was rated at 206bhp when running on gas, and 107bhp when running on hydrogen... and I've found a related article claiming in hydrogen mode, power is up from 107bhp to 147bhp, but I can't find any other information about the gas powered peak power.... but it's nice to hear the next rotary should be going from a 1.3L to a 1.6L, now since it says power will be increased approximately 40%, then for the hydro portion, going from 107bhp to 147bhp would be right in line.... if similar power was found on the gas portion (40% increase) of the motor, power would go from 206bhp to about 288bhp, which is exactly what the RX-8 needs.
