I ran Hankook Icebears on my 3 and they were great! Even better was I bought them thru discounttiredirect.com and they were cheaper than the store. Most of the time, the local stores will price match thier website- the only downside is having to pay sales tax if bought locally.

The tires got me through the blizzard of 06 and were still smooth and fast on dry pavement.

I have Hankook iPikes. They've been great for me so far- I ran them all last winter and for a couple weeks this winter so far.

I have some General Altimax Arctics. They were $88/tire. I have 205/50-17's, so they should be cheaper in a 16. They look like the Hankook.

Not necessarily. 16" car tires are actually kinda expensive. 16" tires on my VUE are cheap, but 16" tires for my Protege can be $20 or so more.

I am running Bridgestone Blizzaks LM-25's and love them! Well compared to trying to get around in my Potenza Reo40's I am sure anything would have been better lol.

I think you'll find that in most cases, tires with a lower aspect ration (Protege) will cost more than those with higher (VUE). And if you move from a 17 to a 16 in a tire (same brand and type) with a similar circumference, you will pay less for the 16's. I haven't found an exception yet.

On my Mazda 3 I installed 16" Bridgestone Blizzaks. Found a set of 16" rims for my 3 on Criagslist for $150.00 back in October. Pulled my 17" stock rims off and installed the 16" Rims. Tires are about $20.00 bucks cheaper per tire. This almost covered the price of the rims and will save me money in the years to come. Plus I liked the fact that I do not have to install my tires twice a year at $45.00 bucks a pop. I am already saving money.

So far I am satisfied with them after running Studded hankooks for years on my old Dodge Stratus. Studded snows on my 1998 Stratus would out perform anything I have driven on in the past in heavy winter snows.

Much less road noise and with the traction control and dynamic stabilty control on my 2008 3 they have performed well in the ice and snow so far. I blow by everyone on the road but Still waiting to see what will happen when a real snow storm hits. So far I am Pleased with them but as I told the Firestone guy if I can not make it up my acre long uphill driveway once when heavy snow hits they are going back and I will trade them in for studded snows.
