Okay, let me preface this with the fact that I have never experienced either fuel cut or engine stutter on my speed6.

Yesterday afternoon I noticed that under WOT around 5k in 3rd gear I would get either enginer stutter or fuel cut. it was like someone was quickly going full accel. then no accel, then back to full accel. very rapidly. I would assume this to be the engine stutter that I have heard of, but I don't know since I have never experienced it before. Later on in the afternoon I got a CEL, but I believe that to be related to how much rain we got yesterday and the fact that I was driving around in it. That was 99% confirmed this morning when I replaced the filter on my CAI, which was a little damp, but not soaked.

So today after replacing tha filter and cleaning up my intake a little I hit was I think was the same problem, only it was a rapid succession of on/off like previously, the car basically just turned off around 55k in 3rd gear at full acceleration.

Anyone who has had stutter or fuel cut have any ideas which one I just experienced?

Have you installed the exhaust manifold yet? I'm sure you would have mentioned that if you had....I'm guessing the cold temps are messing with your ECU. I have to drive my car for 10 mins even on a warm day just so I don't get fuel cut in 3rd gear or above. If your car was already warmed up, then I've got nothing.

Haven't installed the mani, and the car was warm both times.

Ive had both, and you can definitely tell the difference..

The stutter is a very fast interruption at high rpms, usually in third gear, kinda feels like a misfire..not a full shut down of fuel, just a spot in the revs where it hiccups

Fuel cut is a definite throw your head forward feeling, with a definite full fuel loss. The car basically feels like it shuts off for a second, and will not turn back on again until the rpm level has reached the set fuel return level (I believe its 2000rpms, unless you have the Standback, and it is set for a different rpm.)

Hope this helps

I had a similar thing happen to me the past few days....it was because of my CAI getting wet....it would stutter between 3000- 4500 rpm every time..once it dried out everything was fine....the location of the CAI behind the fog lamp allows a lot of water to enter right on the filter..... Not sure if this is your problem...but it sounds very similar....I'm going to build a make shift shield around the fog light so it won't happen again...

I am thinking that the one on Saturday was just the MAF getting a little moisture on it as it definitely felt more like a stutter than fuel cut per firestoned description.

The one on Sunday sounds more like fuel cut, since it really threw me forward when it cut out and it happened only once, not in multiple succesion like Saturday. It couldn't have been the MAF being wet since I replaced the old filter with a brand new one and cleaned the CAI tubing inside and out. My old filter was really dirty and was probably doing a lot more harm to my hp than good.

I didn't have any problems this morning on the drive into work. I tried to reproduce the problem, but nothing happened.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I wonder if it could have been boost cut, due to the cooler temps?
