So it appears I have a pretty big brake fluid leak. I thought it was from the right rear caliper, which I replaced not long after I bought the car because the old one was leaking, but then while bleeding it during installation I snapped off the bleeder screw. It wasn't leaking at the time but I figured it would start eventually.

I still think that caliper is leaking a little but now I have a bigger leak at the master cylinder. It's to the point where I get smoke under the hood when it's running because the brake fluid gets on the exhaust. I filled it a week ago and drove it about 20 miles, then it sat for a week and when I went to drive it again the Brake light was on again already, and there are wet spots under the car.

It looks like the leak is in the seals at the two spots where the reservoir connects to the master cylinder. Has anyone replaced a master cylinder before? Seems like it would be a lot of work. I might just take it somewhere depending on the cost.

I've done it on a 240sx. Not a difficult swap.

Are there usually seals that are part of the reservoir? I found this but it doesn't come with the reservoir and it's another $70 for the one the same thing with a reservoir included. I would like to just reuse my current one but not if it's a seal on the reservoir itself that could be leaking.

Normally, things like that without the reservoirs come with all the necessary seals. Check the box before you leave the store, or at least before you try to mount it. If it doesn't have seals, take it back.

Don't forget to bench-bleed the master. Instructions should be included to do so.

Just ordered a new one off ebay that included a new reservoir. Also included a 1 year warranty for the same price shipped as Flyin Miata wanted for one off a salvaged Miata with no warranty.

Hopefully it comes with instructions but if not there's always the Internet. And my Haynes manual.

Brake master cylinder is replaced and no more brake fluid leak. I still have another leak that I need to find. I don't think it's oil as the level never goes down. It might be the clutch slave cylinder as I know those are prone to wearing out.

I was getting a CEL occasionally and finally read the code (pain in the butt without OBDII) and found the O2 sensor was showing invalid readings. Surprised it hadn't started sooner since when we did the engine swap 2 years ago we rigged the O2 sensor with some spliced wires and electrical tape. Replaced the O2 sensor last night with an OEM one and no CEL so far after about 10 miles of driving, so hopefully that's fixed.

Sad thing is it hardly ever gets driven anymore. With me working from home I've driven maybe 2000 total miles in the last 9 months not counting our 1500 mile trip to Tulsa in the Mustang. And I usually pick the Mustang when I do go out for obvious reasons, lol.
