intake

Postby 07speed3 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:14

Hello all,
Looking for suggestions for a new intake. Possibly a blow off valve as well. Experiences with different brands. I have an 07 speed3 that i want to modify a little but i want reliable power and not and obnoxious sound.

I'm rocking cobb on all my intake stuff, and i love it. no problems, had the BPV on the car for a year now.

BTW: you do NOT want a BOV. our cars HATE them and it will run like crap. lol

Agreed on the COBB intake, their turbo inlet hose is nice as well. I would also steer away from BOV's unless you really need one due to major mods. Good luck with the car!!

why do they run so bad with a bov? thanks for the info guys. Would you steer away from full cold air intakes? or would a ram air work better? What do you run exhaust wise? I've heard hks and but I'm hearing a lot about cork sport as well.

I woul head over to mazdaspeedforums.org, make an account and search search and search again. They are the number one when it comes to this platform.

And to answer your questions, I'm getting ready to put a full CNT Racing turbo back on my speed. The HKS was on the top of my list for a while until I found the CNT. almost exactly the same sound at half the price. Same with the down pipe. It's going to be up to you. But just a cat back isn't going to give you any performance gains, the restriction is in the down pipe.

As far as the BOV, our car has a MAF, so if you vent to atmosphere, it will throw off your AFR.

I have a SRI, and at speed, I get ambient temps coming in (measured with AP). And you don't ever have to worrie about sucking in water.

Yea I used to get between ambient and 5 degrees above ambient with my Cobb SRI. The only times the IATs would go up would be when sitting still like at a light, but they went right back down once you started driving again.

And you can get an aftermarket BOV/BPV, just make sure it's set to recirculate. A lot of them will do either depending on how you set them up. I used the Synapse Synchronic on mine and was very happy with it. If you don't want obnoxious sound, you'll probably want to stay away from the Forge BPV, at least the first gen one. It's a love/hate thing with the sound on that one.

Like was mentioned, sign up on mazdaspeedforums.org and donate at least the minimum ($5 or $10) to get access to the For Sale section over there. I got almost all of my parts used from other members on that site. You can pick up a used Cobb SRI for around $100-125 usually, sometimes even less if you get lucky. I got mine for $90 cause I caught a guy right after he posted it that wanted to get rid of it fast.

^ they bumped the VIP access up to $25 minimum now. It gives you access to the VIP for sale threads, lounge, tuning section.. etc.

I have the Synchronic valve on my car. I had the HKS one at first but it broke after like 3 months. This Synchronic one has been on my car for like 2 years now.

Fuggn $25?! That's crazy. My VIP there just expired too. I hate msf and don't think it's worth that much. There are better, local deals on this forum, just have to be patient.
