off hand idk for a fd but i can email the guy that built my engine that turned me towards those turbo's over a gt35 since they spool like a 35 but almost make the power of a gt42 and are journal bearing so are rebuild-able.

Sweet!! Come on out! There are several of us FD owners in town, and many others own other RX-7 generations too, we have a strong group there. Unfortunately most of us have been down for 2011 lol. But we are slowly coming back on the road. I love to help people with their cars, and I'm not the only one that will help, so you're good to go there. And someone here on the forum (I won't mention who lol) was talking about opening his own shop locally, so either way you should be covered.
I've done pretty much all that stuff to my car too, so there is experience. The only real difference between our builds is the Haltech, I have a PFC. chickenwafer (Dave) tunes PFCs but he may be able to figure out the Haltech too.
Also, I've been looking to get a Borg Warner soon too, but I'm nervous because I'm not 100% sure it will fit haha.
Make the call, come to Carson, you won't regret it hahaha.

alex_n/a wrote:welcome. There is also another shop called precision imports that used to be only rotary specific. But has started doing non rotary cars. I know their "IT" guy and he has had them work on his friends lt1 fd. And his own fc too.
but there are rx7 owners here that help out a lot.
Things may have changed since the time I had my car there (over two years ago), but based on my experience with them I wouldn't take my FD back there. They were nice enough, but they absolutely do not (or at least did not) know what they're doing when it comes to FDs. I would never have let the car out of the shop if I knew how much they jury rigged, or how poorly routed the turbo controls were (i.e. basically non-functional). It's in Denver anyway, so probably not worth the drive for him. Especially when there are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks in the Springs
Anyway, welcome to the site!- boosted12a

I have a 93 RX7 and am trying to find out if there are even any shops that specialize or have staff that specialize in rotary and RX7s, most importantly 3rd gen FD. I'll be starting a pretty big build when I get home so gott have access to places that know what they are doing. Thanks for any info

Yep, or one of the other few slogans we've had since I've been in haha. Aim High, No One Comes Close, Cross Into the Blue...I'm not sure how many slogans we need in a 15 year time span haha.
I was at Pope/Ft Bragg before Peterson and I thought it sucked, then I was told it was one of the better Army posts:huh: Sorry guys, I don't know how you do it. I don't want to switch over anymore LOL. Actually it was more the town than the post though. Fayetteville sucks!

Yes i'm the one from RX7Club. Lol yea FT Riley wasnt the best duty stationed by far, prior to being stationed there I had been stationed at FT Hood. TX has much more to offer in terms of a car scene that not only goes all year long but you can find ppl meeting up damn near every night of the week except for rain usually lol. I reenlisted durring my last deployment to PCS to KS because my parents had moved to KS so i've been stationed an hour from where they live(my father retired E-9 from navy and got a big time job in KS). Lol for as much as anyone can talk about how much KS sucks, at least I can say KS has a legitimate shop that specializes in RX7, owner is even a highly sucessful SCCA racer with both miatas and RX7 his shop works on many peoples SCCA race cars, tunes them, ect. Id trust my car at his shop any day one of those guys whos truely good at what he does and has a passion for it, not just some chump out to cut profits.
As for my engine specs currently my FD is a few minor mods short of stock. Its got an exhaust, front tower brace, couple gauges, and a steering wheel, all of which will be changed. I purchased the car a few months ago, and my goal was to find one as stock as possible and I managed to do pretty well, engine had just been rebuilt and is even currently warrentied by the engine builder until I start messing with it too much, had the car checked out by the shop I spoke of in KS and nothing but good news, only things that arent so great is the rear pillow balls are at the end of their life and the audio system needs an overhaul, hardly things I can complain about when most arent so lucky when purchasing RX7s.
I am contemplating moving to CO but my biggest worry is even with everyone coming out to help with the build im still completely set on having no one other than Steve Kan tune my car, I havent gone cheap on the parts build and I want no one but the best to tune my ride.
Also I would imagine the car scene dies out pretty bad durring the cold seasons of CO, I dont like being out of the car scene for too long I gotta be where theres at least meet ups every weekend, all year around. Having been stationed at FT Hood, TX we were doing local meet ups every single evening and doing cruises out to Austin every sat for the big meets, so yall do it nearly that often or what? Also do yall have giant vehicle damaging hail out there? Never seen that sort of shit till I got stationed in KS and hate that shit.

Yes please do and see if he knows of a setup that I can get that would be able to fit that turbo, id be willing to give it a try.

What is the name of the shop in Kansas? Not sure I've heard of that one.
We still meet up in the winter, sometimes every week, or sometimes every other week. But even if we don't have a meet, many of us hang out a lot of the time anyway. Hell, 3 of us live together LOL. Our home is always open to rotary lovers...and Frank I guess HAHAHAHA. Anyway, the meets aren't always with the cars because the weather is not always good enough, but usually when it's not snowing we will still bring the cars out, as long as the roads aren't too bad. It's not as bad as you're probably thinking. We do get hail every now and then, but from what I've seen it's been only a couple times, once in 2008 and another in 2010. We just had some a few weeks ago right before I deployed but it wasn't bad enough to damage cars. And actually the one in 08 I don't think damaged any either. As long as you have a garage and insurance it shouldn't matter anyway haha.
Steve comes out to Denver every now and then to do tuning sessions. Mike B was just saying he was going to come out for someone with an RX-8 and Mike said he was going to try to get him out again next Spring to tune.

He did say he was planning a gtX35R which is the billet comp wheel compressor...much more efficient design and much better transient response so a GTX35R will spool MUCH quicker than a standard BW S366 and the GTX should be able to move over 500rwhp.

Here is an overlay of the standard GT35R compressor map in blue with the GTX map in red. Notice how much the map is shifted to the right? You'll also notice this compressor can do 75lbs/min at a 2.75PR so it really moves some air. Easily over 500 rotary rwhp and full boost around 3000-3300rpm. An S366 will still be spooling around 3700rpm on a mildly ported REW.
So if he was looking at a standard GT35R I would tend to agree with you, but with the billet GTX35R it's a whole other animal.
