chickenwafer wrote:Now stretched tires do have their place (don't get Ian started haha), but an "insane" stretch, like putting 195's on 16x10's, is stupid. But there are safe stretches...for example I have 255's on my 17x10's. It's not a crazy stretch by any means and still perfectly safe. I could fit up to 285's on them but they would rub...I don't think it's a huge sacrifice.

Really, the stretched tires don't hurt your car at all, the worst thing is exposing your wheel to easier curb rashing. Un-beading of the tire can be a problem but you need a serious/insane stretch for that to even enter the picture

I should have qualified my stretched statement... I've seen cars where it looks like a black rubber band stretched around a wheel - almost no sidewall at all. That's got to be a rough ride, and it looks like the rims could easily be damaged.

Gotta love those Civics/Integras with fart cans. They make all kinds of noise but don't actually go anywhere. Followed one tonight on Powers. Sounded like it was accelerating furiously but I was able to out-accelerate it in my Miata, and that's saying something because my Miata is slooooooow.

I dunno. I used to hate the gold rims on STis but gold on black looks pretty good. I have mixed feelings on the gold on blue. There's a newer white one in my neighborhood with gold rims though and to me that just doesn't look right. And the gold on red doesn't look good at all imo.

If I'm not mistaken the gold/blue combo on Subies is a rare/special color combo, and therefore, I like. This is info I got from a Subie owner anyway.

Some STi's in the past came with the gold wheels, but IMO too many people automatically do this to their Sti's/WRX's, it just looks bad.

As I understood it, blue/gold was the iconic color for the STi. The gold wheels have always looked a bit off on other subies, but as long as they are on a deep blue STi, they just feel right.
Actually, I'd have to say that gold wheels on any car other than the deep blue STi is something I can't stand. I can't think of a single time I've seen gold wheels on other cars and not questioned the sanity of the driver.
