Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar

Slow going, I ordered a few bits for the Cougar today. New battery tray, hold down, front end emblem, some grommets, etc. i need to pick up some wire terminals to finish up the wiring for the headlight door harness. I’ve got the motors in, and getting closer to have it put back together. Maybe buy n...

I would've contacted Dunlop for warranty claims, but I didn't want the same tires back on there.

Re: The new Taco

Guess it’s time for new tires. Tires (and truck) are 3 years old, manufactured 4th week of 2015. They’re dry rotted, splitting quite badly. All 4 tires on the shoulder, and close to the wheel around the sidewalk. I don’t use tire dressing, keep them inflated properly, etc. Edit: had some 265/70/17 B...

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar

Started working on replacing the vaccum headlight door actuators with the electric kit. Naturally, I broke one bolt on one actuator, and the other is rusted solid. They've been soaking for a bit with PB blaster now. Since I don't need to reuse that bolt, I'll most likely cut it out if I can't work t...

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar

The new scoop looks so much better. I can't stop looking at the front of the car. When I get some time, maybe Sunday, I'll see if I can get the electric headlight door actuators installed.

It's done! Now to see if I can squeeze picking it up today, or if I have to wait until tomorrow.

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar

No news yet. I should drive by and see if it's sitting outside. If it's done this week, I'll try and pick it up Saturday. We've got an end of year hockey party at our house on Friday and would rather not have a gaggle of kids running around fresh paint. It'd be hard to hold off picking it up, though.

Re: Front 4 Club

Damn, I should've kept my CX. Probably not competitive, but I bet that would've been a fun little car to toss around. Sounds like a great plan, if I didn't have the Cougar, I'd be interested. Maybe something will happen down the road. I keep getting the small car itch.

You're 6 years into ownership of this guy, congrats!

Glad the battery seemed to fix your issues.

Re: 1967 Mercury Cougar

I do have a manual choke. I haven't needed to use it except after it's been sitting a while and I'm starting it on a cold day (when I took it to the shop last week, for instance). I'm looking foward to going fuel injected down the road and not sitting there cranking wondering if the battery will wea...

Re: Do you change your own oil?

Just to bump this, the rebate seems to always be there. I just clicked the link, and it has an expiration date of May 2018.

Re: The new Taco

I'd like the wheels, there's a set on CL right now, he wants $950 for them. They've been on there a while. I'd have to get tires as well, as the Pro wheels are 16" and my current wheels are 17". They also didn't have decals (like the T/X Baja) did. Main difference are the badges are black ...

Re: The new Taco

Well, I’ve started down the rabbit hole a little bit. The Bilstein TRD Pro suspension normally $1800 had a sale price close out of $600/shipped. Beefy shocks, springs, remote reservoir, wee. Should be good for a 2” lift or so. I’ll install it when I upgrade wheels and tires, probably sometime next y...
