Re: RX-8 project car?

So I finally had time to test drive an RX-8 today.... For reference, it was a 2007 Sport manual (read: no sunroof) with 49k miles on the clock. This particular car didn't seem to have been very well cared for. There were a few issues: -The interior was pretty scratched/torn up (torn shift boot, ect)...

Re: FRS/BRZ vs RX8 vs S2000 Comparison

Cool vid; I'd like to see them do the same comparison with a 350Z (or 370Z, though they are more expensive), Hyundai Genesis, and Porsche Boxster just for kicks. Well, they did something close-ish to that.... they did a review of 2+2 coupes a while back between the RX-8, the Hyundai Genesis and the...

Re: FRS/BRZ vs RX8 vs S2000 Comparison

The last time I drove an S2000, I drove it back to back with my old MSM and there was no question, my MSM's steering was better weighted and had better feedback. Although that's not a fair comparison, as the MSM's setup was hydraulic. I've owned at least 4 cars with EPS (MK6 GTI, MK6 Golf R, Focus S...

Re: New rotary engine design!

That's a good point about trying to cool a housing with 3 combustion chambers. It would be interesting to see what a major auto manufacturer could do with it. I'm also curious to see how it would handle varying speeds (vs constant speeds for the applications they're working on). Mazda recently said ...

Re: FRS/BRZ vs RX8 vs S2000 Comparison

I've actually watched that review a couple of times now; those guys (Everyday Driver) have become some of my favorite reviewers to watch! I also respected their comments.... I've recently driven an S2000, but I haven't driven an RX-8 in quite a while and I've actually never driven the BRZ/FRS. I lik...

Re: RX-8 project car?

Thanks for the tips buddy, I appreciate it! Let me know when the car is up and running; I'd be more than happy to come check it out! I'll be sure to bring a helmet and test it out.

Thanks again!

New rotary engine design!

Has anyone seen this new rotary design? Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e785YnDmq0&list=PL5qOaJhgyrMN-cE6EKaLze9Uw--Z49V5- The engine above is a diesel (even though it appears to have spark plugs?!?). They're claiming up to 50% reduction in diesel fuel consumption while the moto...

Re: RX-8 project car?

GR-8, thanks for the detailed review, I appreciate it bud! Just curious, where are you at in Denver/Lakewood? I'm actually off of Hampden/285 and Kipling. Any chance you might let my check out your NA 8 sometime? After doing quite a bit of reading, it looks like the only real NA bolt-on that's worth...

Re: The new Taco

Nice truck! I think you're the only other person I know that goes through vehicles as quickly as I do.... One of these days I would like to keep one for the long haul. I think my record is 2.5 years with both of my former Subaru's. I'll give you credit though, you did keep your FoST a lot longer tha...

Re: RX-8 project car?

I like the RX8. My only gripe would be paying premium for a car that gets at best 20mpg. I don't think it's all that slow (but then again i drive a miata) and the gearing is good enough to mask that lack of torque. The car is a handling beast with a functional backseat. I am waiting for the R3 pric...

Re: RX-8 project car?

Mine was up about 12hp, single digit torque, with simply a flash. The old Cobb base map was the map created off my car. I also had GM LS ignition coils installed as well. The only other work I did to is was RB sways/links and Mazdaspeed coilovers. I never felt wanting for power, to be honest. I've ...

Re: RX-8 project car?

Yes, the tranny is weak on the 8. It's similar to the S2000 tranny and has all the same problems---popping out of gear (or getting stuck in one), grinding, "notchy" feeling, etc. It sounds like an 8 would fit you pretty well, though. Aside from the common problems, they're supposedly incr...

Re: RX-8 project car?

Mechanically, other than the tranny, I had no issues with my RX8. I really liked that car and would get another. The rotary doesn't bother me either, and to me (as with most cars) it seems issues arise when people start modding them. It's in my top 5 for most fun vehicle I've owned, in no particula...

Re: RX-8 project car?

And I don't know if you've looked at RX-8 prices lately, but they're really starting to get cheap. Good example: http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/5045726319.html ^^^2005 RX-8, 73k miles, clean Carfax, only $5995. That's a lot of car for the money. I've considered several other cars: 350Z (too heavy,...

Re: RX-8 project car?

Thanks for the link! There's a lot of good info there. This is what I have in mind for my next weekend/project car: 1. I enjoy having 2 vehicles to switch back and forth between. 2. It will give me something to tinker with to take away my urge to modify my primary daily driver. 3. It would be someth...
